Throughbeam photoelectric sensors consist of separate housings in which the transmitter and receiver are physically separated from each other. The transmitter aims its light directly at the receiver. As soon as an object interrupts the light beam, the voltage at the receiver drops, which triggers the switching function.

This principle makes it possible to detect opaque and reflective objects and enables long ranges. Throughbeam photoelectric sensors are robust and less susceptible to interference, making them particularly suitable for use in demanding conditions.
